The 7th house in a horoscope primarily
relates to marriage, spouse and any other
form of partnership. The sign falling in the 7th
house and any benefic or malefic influence
of planets on it and its lord correspondingly
affect the married life of the individual. From
every lagna, the 7th house is directly opposite,
the two have different characteristics (Fiery,
Earthy, Airy or Watery) and their lords are not
friendly. Hence some difference in nature and
thinking between husband-wife is natural.
Marital problems become unbearable when
the 7th house, 7th lord, Kalatrakaraka Venus
and Patikaraka Jupiter are severely afflicted.
Besides the 7th house, the other houses
concerned with married life are the 2nd
house (family and longevity of spouse), the
4th house (home and family happiness), the
5th house (love and progeny), the 8th house
(Mangalya or duration of married life), and the
12th house (bed comforts). Affliction to these
houses, Kalatrakaraka Venus and Patikaraka
Jupiter by Saturn, Mars, Rahu, Ketu and the
Sun to a lesser degrees, create problems
in married life in keeping with the nature of
afflicting planets. Mars and Ketu cause bad
temper, quarrel, accident and even death.
Rahu causes confusion, unorthodox marriages,
unfaithfulness and sudden short-cut in
married life. Saturn delays, makes the married
life dull and dreary. Sun causes ego clash. The
combined affliction by two or more of these
planets on marriage factors, without any
favourable benefic aspect, makes married life
problematic and in extreme cases the native is
denied conjugal bliss or it is short-lived.

highlighting marital problems due to malefic
effect without any benefic aspect on 7th house,
its lord, Venus and Jupiter are as under.
कलत्रपो बिना स्वक्र्ष व्ययषष्ठाष्टभस्थितः।
रोगिणी कुरुते नारी तथा तुंगनकदिकं बिना।।
(Brihat Parasara Hora Shashtra, Ch. 20.2)
meaning, "When the 7th lord is placed in the
6th, 8th or 12th house, and is not in its own
sign, or in the sign of its exaltation, it indicates
a sickly wife (spouse)."
कलत्रे तत्परौ वाडपि पापग्रहसभन्विते।
भार्याहानिं वदेत् तस्य निर्बले च विशेषतः।।
(ibid, 20.16)
meaning, "When the 7th house and its lord are
devoid of strength, in conjunction with malefic
planets, the astrologer should predict loss of
native's wife (spouse)."
षष्ठे च भवने भौमः सप्तमे राहुसंस्थिति।
अष्टमे च यदा सौरिस्तस्य भार्या न जीवति।।

meaning, "When Mars is in the 6th, Rahu in
7th and Saturn in the 8th house, the native's
wife (spouse) does not live long."
बुध सूर्यसुतौ नपुंसकारव्यौ..(Brihat Jatak, 2.6)
meaning, "The conjunction or aspect of Saturn
on Mercury in the 7th house leads to unhappy
marriage, as these are impotent planets."
नीचांशे नीचसंयुक्ते दारनाथ च कारके।
कुस्त्रीयुतो भवेज्जातः शुभदृष्टि विवर्जिते।।
(Sarvartha Chintamani, Ch. 6.39)
meaning, "When the 7th lord and its Karaka
(Venus) are debilitated, conjoined with
malefics and are devoid of benefic influence,
the native faces problems in marriage and
gets a bad wife (spouse)."
क्षीणे शशांके यदि पापयुक्ते दारस्थिते त्वंन्यकलत्रगामी।
लग्ने सपापे यदि दारनाथे जातः परस्त्रीषु रतः कुमार्गी।।

meaning, 'When weak Moon is located in the
7th house with Saturn or other malefic planet,
the native is adulterous. So is the case if the
lord of 7th house is located in Lagna with a
malefic.

सितेज्प्यथ शुभेतरेक्षियुते च जायावद्यः।।
(Phala Deepika, Ch.10.1)
meaning, "If malefic planets occupy the 12th,
4th and 8th house counted from Venus, or
if Venus is hemmed in between two malefic
planets or if Venus is aspected by or associated
with malefics, the death of wife (spouse)
occurs."
कामे वा सुतभाग्ययोर्विकल दारो ऽ सौ सपापे भृगो।।
शुक्रे वा कुजभन्दवर्गसहिते दृष्टे परस्त्रीरतः।।
(ibid, Sl.10.4)
meaning, "When Venus is associated with a
malefic and occupies 7th, 5th or 9th house, the
wife (spouse) of the native is disabled."
"When Venus occupies the Varga(house) of
Mars or Saturn and is aspected by either of
these, the native is sure to have intimacy with
the wife of another person."
भार्यानाशस्त्व शुभसहितौ वीक्षितौ वाथकामौ।
तत्र प्राहुस्त्वशुभफलदां क्रूरदृष्टिं विशेषात्।।
(ibid, 10.7)
meaning, "When the 2nd and 7th houses are
occupied or aspected by malefic planets, there
will be loss of wife. Similar result about the
husband may be predicted from wife's chart
when the 7th and 8th houses are likewise
afflicted."

पुंसोर्भृतिः स्थान्निद्यने धने वा।।

meaning, "If inauspicious planets in debilitation
or inimical signs are posited in the 6th, 8th
or 2nd house, the death of wife or husband
should be predicted, as the case may be."
Discussion of Horoscopes
Example 1 : Male
7th house is aspected by Saturn (R) and Ketu.
5th lord Venus in 5th
house is conjoined with
Rahu. It is aspected
by Jupiter from 9th
house, but Jupiter is
badhaka and aspected
by Rahu and Mars.
Though the native
got a beautiful and
accomplished wife, she fell sick during the birth of second child,
after five years' of marriage, and remained
incapacitated till her death. The native did not
marry again. There is no strong benefic aspect
on 7th house and 7th lord.
Example 2 : Female
This is the horoscope
of a former central
Minister. There is no
planet in 7th house or
benefic aspect on it.
The 7th lord Saturn
is in inimical sign
(Scorpio) in 5th house
and afflicted by Rahu.
The 7th house is in Papkartari yoga.
Patikaraka Jupiter is aspected by Mars and
Saturn poisoned by Rahu.
Retrograde Mars is in 8th house from Lagna
causing strong Mangal Dosh. Her married life
reportedly was problematic and her husband
unfortunately died in plane crash on 23.8.1980,
when she was only 24 years of age.
Example 3 : Male
The 6th lord Saturn is
in 7th, Rahu is in 8th
and 8th lord Mars is
in lagna, aspecting
Moon, Saturn and
Rahu in the 4th, 7th and
8th house respectively.
The native got married
in 1995, which ended
in divorce in 1997. He
married again in May, 1999. He has a daughter
and a son from second marriage. However,
his married life is far from happy. The 7th lord
Jupiter is exalted in 11th house and has helped
him in giving second marriage. Affliction of
Moon by Mars, Rahu and Saturn has caused
mental tension and unhappiness in family life.

Lord of 7th Saturn is debilitated and aspected
by Ketu. Mercury, lord of 3rd and 12th, is in 7th
house and aspected
by debilitated Saturn.
Patikaraka Jupiter is
aspected by Saturn
and Rahu. Yogakaraka
Mars is afflicted by
Rahu. Seventh house
is in Papkartari yoga.
Venus is combust in 6th
house and aspected
by Ketu. The girl married in September, 1996
and quickly separated due to impotency of
husband. Mutual divorce was obtained in
January, 2000. She married a widower in 2004
in Jupiter dasha.
Example 5 : Male
Lord of 7th Saturn
is debilitated. Mars
occupies 7th house.
Mars and Saturn aspect
each other. 7th house
is in papkartari drishti
yoga. Ketu aspects 6th
house and Rahu is in
8th. Venus is afflicted
by Saturn and Rahu and conjoins the Sun in
4th house. The native got married in July, 1997.
A son was born to couple in July, 1998. The
wife started living separately due to his loose
character and sought legal divorce.
Example 6 : Female
The native married in
1996 and applied for
divorce after a month.
Patikaraka Jupiter
is also 7th lord and
posited in Lagna with
Ketu. Rahu occupies

with 9th lord Mercury, the native is unmarried

Patikarak Jupiter is
in inimical sign in
3rd house with Ketu.
Kalatrakaraka Venus
is exalted in 9th
house but with Rahu and Saturn. Mars in 4th
house gives Mangal dosh. Mars aspects Sun
and Mercury in 7th house. The aspect of Rahu
on Moon in own sign in lagna decreases her
confidence and makes her suspicious. Various proposals did not proceed further. The
location of Sun and Mercury in 7th house,
affliction of patikaraka Jupiter and Kalatra
Karak Venus, have denied her conjugal
bliss.
Example 9
The matching points are 25.5/36 with
Bhakoota Dosha. In husbands horoscope
lagna and 7th house are occupied by
Ketu and Rahu. Rahu afflicts Venus in
7th house. 7th lord Moon is afflicted by
Saturn. There is no benefic aspect on
7th house, 7th lord and Venus indicating
unhappy married life
In wife's horoscope Lagna is occupied by
Saturn(R) and aspects 7th house. 7th lord
Mars is in 8th house and forms Mangal
dosha. 9th house is occupied by Rahu
and aspects Saturn(R) in lagna, Venus in 10th
house is in papkartari yoga. Mangal Dosh is
not matched, which shows unhappy married
life. Rahu in 9th house confirms it. The couple got married on 4.2.2011, when the
boy was running Jup.-Jup. which is combust
in his 8th house and his Sadhesati ran upto
2.11.14. The girl was running Rahu-Venus
Bhukti. Rahu dasha ran upto 7.11.2014. Venus
is in papakartari yoga and there is aspect of
Saturn(R) and Jupiter(R) lord of 3rd and 6th
house on it.
Differences cropped up during their stay in
