putra ne pita se kaha - ‘‘devadhidev mahadev ka dusra nam mrityunjay bhi hai, atah main bhagvan shiv ko apni bhakti se prasann karke purnayu ko avashya prapt karunga.’’ mata-pita ki agya prapt kar markandeyji vidhipurvak sadhna karne lage. shivling ki upasna ke bad vah brahma-shakti se mrityunjay stotra ka path karne lage. bhagvan shiv, unki bhakti evan sadhna se bahut prasann hue. 16ven varsh ka antim din aya.

sharir raksha ke sath buddhi, vidya, yash aur lakshmi bhi barhti hai. mahamrityunjay yantra bhagvan mrityunjay se sanbandhit hai jiska shabdik arth spasht hai ki mrityu par vijay. is devta ki akriti dedipyaman hai tatha yah nana prakar ke rup dharan karne vala hai. yah sab aushdhi ka svami hai tatha vaidyon men sabse bara vaidya hai. yah apne upaskon ke putra-pautradi (bachchon) tak ko arogya v dirghayu pradan karta hai.
yantra ke madhya men sthapit mahamrityunjay yantra ke charo or anya yantra sthapit kar iski shakti men aur adhik vriddhi ki gai hain. iski sadhna se sadhak ko rog se mukti to milti hi hai, sath hi svasthya bhi hamesha uttam rahta hai. ismen sthapit anya yantron ki apni-apni adbhut mahima hai.
mahamrityunjay yantra ka prayog upasna aur mantra-jap ke atirikt ise kavach ke rup men bhi dharan kiya ja sakta hai. ‘‘kriyoddish tantra’’ men ek anya kavach ka bhi ullekh prapt hota hai. is kavach ke bare men bhagvti ne bhagvan shiv se kaha ki ‘‘he dev ! ap mujhe mrityu se raksha karne vala tatha sab prakar ke ashubhon ka nash karne vala koi ‘kavch’ batlaiye? tab bhagvan shiv ne is mahamrityunjay kavach ko hi batlaya tha.
